Each year, Dunwoody Country Club hosts a charity event called A Tradition of Giving, benefiting local children’s charities. In the past ten years, we have donated more than $800,000. As part of a weekend full of events, we will be holding a silent and live auction at a Charity Gala on Saturday, August 23, 2014. This year, all of the funds raised will be used to support three local charities: Special Olympics Georgia, Special Pops Tennis and Zac Brown's Camp Southern Ground.
Special Olympics Georgia provides year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Their goal is to help bring these special people into the larger society under conditions whereby they are accepted, respected, and given the chance to become useful and productive citizens.
Special Populations Tennis Program, Inc. (Special Pops Tennis) is dedicated to enriching the lives of children and adults with intellectual disabilities through the lifetime sport of tennis. They offer year-round tennis opportunities to over 650 athletes with special needs at 17 metro Atlanta tennis venues. In addition to the tennis training, they have league play and tournament competition. This is the only league of its type in the USA and is sanctioned by the USTA. Other dimensions of this program are nutrition training, social skills development, positive self-esteem, sportsmanship, healthy active life style, and a safe nurturing environment for building meaningful relationships.
Zac Brown’s Camp Southern Ground was recently started by Atlanta native, Zac Brown. Their mission is to operate a camp to allow children to overcome academic, social and emotional difficulties so they may reach their full potential by providing them with the opportunity and serve tools necessary to achieve excellence in all facets of their lives. The camp will be located in Fayetteville, Georgia.
